Another year is almost at an end and soon we’ll be starting to think about holidays, festive meals and new year’s resolutions. We thought now would be a good time to look back over 2022 and call out highlights from the year. To give it a little festive spin, we’ve made it into a ‘Twelve highlights of GROW 2022’ format – enjoy!
For Women’s History Month we celebrated with charity partner You Make It, who spoke to us about how they support, mentor and upskill under and unemployed women (particularly of colour) for them to land roles within the creative industries. We also spoke to Shauni Caballero about her experiences in the music industry.
For Pride Month, we started off with an informative talk by Bassel Deeb on a history of the Pride movement and a reflection on the current climate. We also heard from Allana Grant from our Pride Month charity partner, Mermaids, on the challenges faced by gender-diverse kids, young people and their families.
We kicked off this theme with an informative talk by Amy Walker from GroupM and Neurodiversity Works - “Why Neurodiversity Works”. We then heard from our own Nick Platt, who shared his family’s experiences with Neurodiversity (please do not to share recording)
For World Suicide Prevention Day, Georgie (one of our Mental Health First Aiders along with Jess Nicks) shared resources on Audio Network’s EAP (Employee Assistance Programme), which includes mental health toolkits, articles and counsellors. Georgie and Jess are there to support employees with any mental health concerns.
We were joined by Charisse Beaumont, CEO of Black Lives in Music. It was an incredibly powerful talk that gave a deeper insight into the challenges faced by Black music creators and industry professionals, also offering advice to companies and individuals on how we can take action to make a difference. You can also access their full report here: https://blim.org.uk/report
This one-week celebration focuses on how to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender variant people - and address the issues the community faces. We heard from Allana Grant from Mermaids, on the challenges faced by gender-diverse kids, young people and their families.
We should point out that this list is by no means exhaustive, and there is much more in the GROW Teams Channel; this is just to give you an easily digestible flavour.
